Gardening | Befores

There’s something grounding about working the earth with your hands.

Ah! This little garden has given me so much life. I find it to be the most therapeutic practice. It’s meaningful. Gardening prompts patience, cultivates anticipation and gifts us with excitement when each fruit begins to be born. Remembering that the fruit and the vegetable are the last of the plant to grow calls for much remembering when the plant is small, weak or less than beautiful. It required nurturing and so much care. For weeks and months, it gives you nothing but a reason to be pulling weeds from the ground and watering endlessly. I talk to my plants too. I pray over them as I push their seed into the soil and again when I transfer from the pot into it’s new home. I pray for the ones I love and our own lives while they’re growing. I sip coffee and wine and I often invite friends over to spend time with me as I work. They can help or not- I just love the company. Sweet Amos, digs along side of me, drags the hose over to me and pulls the tomatoes off as soon as they’re red. And that was when he was just 1! I cannot wait to see what this year grows for he and I.

As you likely know, we have ten chicks now in their adolescence chirping their heads off in our kitchen. And because I’m super over the cleaning of the tank and ready to move them outside Justin is on a hard deadline to have their coop done. Which somehow translated into me getting an entirely new gardening area. I’m not complaining, just anxiously prompting to make sure the wheel keeps turning.

I wanted to put up a little before post so that you can see where we mostly started from and I’m sure I’ll have a mid and positive a final will be up before long. I’m REALLY excited for all of the beauty that’s unfolding. Can’t wait for you to see.
