Our Home | Before & After Renovations

Our Home | Before & After Renovations

We joke that renovating this home was our pre-marital counseling.... although it's a half-truth. We bought a home, renovated it, formally engaged and then off to a wedding we went.

Guys, I LOVE this little home. During our drive of moving me to Colorado from New York Justin said, "hey, I know we're "taking things slow" but there is a home I found just before leaving for this trip that I want you to look at when we get back." "Justin! That is not taking it slow." None-the-less, we went. As we pulled around the curved driveway Justin informed me that the home was very run down and would need to be scraped so I needed to prepare myself. "Soak up the land before you say anything." I promise you that as we slowly turned the last corner of the sweet little dirt drive, my heart melted. That almost dilapidated little, log-cabin looking home was exactly what I had been rooting my life in for the previous six month during my daydreams. In the middle of the City, I spent my 30th birthday at the Urban Cowboy. If you haven't seen it, click here. See! Cabin Vibes. We went inside, I ripped up the carpet (gave Justin a heart attack) and found wood floors. Caught a glimpse of the wood burning fireplace... SOLD! Everywhere we looked there was more to fall in love with. A massive, fenced off garden area, a lovely little shed with the old man's tools still inside, a loafing shed that had remnants of a man who loved to tinker with this and that. A shed up the way with a vintage push till.. the list goes on. We caught ourselves writing the narrative for the family before us. "They must have had chickens!" (wrong) "She must have been a green thumb!" (correct) "They must have lived so much of their lives here, building along the way." Yes! It left an imprint on our hearts... and then we found this link. It told us so much and even gave us photographs of the Murrah's. Dalton & Aldeen made this property homey and left it with love. We had to have it. This home is not perfect, of course! We have things we dream about doing every day and functionally it's old. It keeps us safe and warm and it holds thousands of sweet memories of the precious family before us, who built and loved it and hundreds of our own.

This is the story of our home. The walls aren't smoothed, the floors aren't exactly what we explained we wanted and the furnace is obnoxiously loud and we don't have an ensuite for our bedroom. However, we love it! It's cute, it doesn't let us keep much more than we need, it's where we brought our precious son home to and it has space to host the ones we love. Heres to before and after!

A few things to note.... The living room floor was covered in gold 70's shag carpet. Bye carpet. The hardwoods throughout the house are original with the exception of the hall where we added wood to match so that we didn't have five different types of flooring touch. The Guest Bathroom is the longest one (with the tub) and it is the room left most alone. The bedroom's biggest change was the removal of the wallpaper, fresh paint, new basing and casing. The weird room with all of the cabinets near the "master" bath was a sewing room that we took the space from for the additional washroom and an water filtration closet that is attached the mudroom. The mudroom and guest room are not featured in this post. The baby room before photos are also not included, but the afters are linked Here. The kitchen was not intended to be remodeled originally but when Justin hit a gas line outdoors and the gas company helped themselves to an inspection everything had to be replaced.
