Our Family | A Short Film
True story. I'm not a huge fan of video. True story, I've wiped multiple tears watching this.
I told Just the other day while we were doing some kind of a parenting task with Amos that I really love parenting with him. I think it's our sweet spot together. Justin and I are determined, opinionated and don't like being told what to do. We also really appreciate our independence (I more than him) and we can "speak" at loud volumes when tension fills the room. When still given permission to practice so much of this behavior for so much of our lives while still only dating and having them join us into the first while of our marriage (which we're still living), relationship has felt challenging. A year and a half ago just the making of this video would've been a disaster.
As I watch this bit of our lives it makes me see a glimpse of us from the outside and the progress that we've made inside of our hearts and in our marriage. Even when we're frustrated it's so much easier to put it away quickly or find resolve without it being a whole thing. I'm thankful for that. Watching what our sweet friend, Stephanie, put together within an hour of our day surprised me. While of course, it was thought through before we started and Steph and I talked during the filming about what was next, it so accurately depicts what more of a whole week looks like inside of 3.5 minutes. They're three full and loved minutes.
Amos pulling weeds with me is a real activity that we love to share with one another. I spend countless hours in the garden and I cherish the moments where he joins me. He will bring me the hose, pull weeds and eat dirt, all of which aren't really intentional but they happen. One of Justin's favorite chores is mowing and I mostly only love when it's in the garden. I look forward to preparing food for both of them most days and the idea of having Amos start to join me that sweet tradition makes my heart swell. I'm thankful for the way Justin loves me, I look forward to showing him the happenings of the day when he's returned home from work, holding his hands and watching him love our little man. If for nothing more than an online diary I'm sharing but I hope it gives a real peek into some of our favorite family things. xx- the Mitchells.
