Quick Tips | Home Inspirations
We live in an old home and while it has charming qualities and we redid so much of it to make it our own and we talk about bulldozing it well, every month, we’re not anytime in the foreseeable future. For a long while, we’ll be here. We love it and it’s cute and it already holds enough memories that when the day comes that we do bulldoze it, I’ll sob. Likely off and on for weeks. I can see it now.
In the meantime, I’m up to all of the sneaky tricks to keep the funny old things mildly noticeable as I can and I’m constantly freshening things up. A few tricks to keep the air feeling clean are listed here, if you have any favorite tricks, send them my way!
I’m a big fan of dryer sheets in these built-ins that we love so much. While they’re endearing, they’ve been around a while! When we first moved in I wiped everything down like a crazy woman and then put two Myers sheets in each drawer. I think I’m going to drop some favorite oils on fabric and tuck in there to freshen them up again.
I’m a big fan of purifying the air, especially in the Winter months. I long for the warmer days so that I can open the doors and just air the place out. I’m dusting regularly and being surrounded with dirt outside of the house, it’s necessary. Adding the concrete patio last Fall really helped cut down on the level of dust but it’s still present. For the last 18 months, diffusing and humidifying are a daily activity. I have a diffuser in Amos’ room, our room + the kitchen. We have a salt rock purifier in the guest bath and a massive but sleep humidifier in our bedroom to help with our overly dry noses. And I try to have fresh green plants growing in each room to help freshen things up, both atmosphere and the air. Here’s how some of that presents itself.
Like I say, our home is old and so the insulation of it feels less than best. So I have blankets tucked in every corner. I love washing them and setting them out during the day and knowing that I get to cozy up later that evening. That feels dreamy and makes it feel like home to me.
Our home is FULL of hardwoods. Which can feel nuts to some and it likely is. I’m too picky when it comes to home items and furnishings so I’ll often skip a thing altogether and leave a spot in our home looking like it needs help then settle and just put something in a spot. Which means, we’ve had a lot of uncovered wood while I’m waiting for just the right floor covering. Our roomba + dyson vacuum have been real time savers and I’m so thankful for the help the give me. I’d rather them than cleaners, if I had to choose how money was being spent I think I’d stick to tools I can grab anytime. But also, I’d love a cleaning team sooooo….
And my last “keeping the spring clean feels” tip would be to make sure you’re purging through Winter. I know we tend to pac-rat during this season or not feel up to digging in and letting go of things but it makes that Spring Clean much easier and keeps the house feeling light without all of the clutter taking over.
I hope this post is helping you breathe easy and feel the cozy but clean that Winter can give us. Storing up our energy for busy Summers is so good for our bodies, it’s even better when done in health. xx -k
